World Press Photo invites press photographers and photojournalists throughout the world to participate in the 48th annual World Press Photo contest. This competition accepts press photographs taken during 2004 and intended for publication. Entries for the 2005 contest, accompanied by a completed Entry Form, must be sent to the foundation’s office in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, before 13 January 2005. Type: Press photos taken throughout 2004

Theme: There are 10 categories each of which include singe photos and portfilios/stories.

Eligibility: International. Open to all ages.

Prizes: The award carries a cash prize of EUR 10,000 and an invitation to Amsterdam to attend the Awards Ceremony in April 2005 (including one return air fare and hotel accommodation). Includes an exhibition of the author’s photojournalistic work, to be opened during the Awards Ceremony in Amsterdam. During the Awards Days, Canon will present its latest professional digital camera to the winner of the World Press Photo of the Year 2004 Award. In each category both the photographer of the best single picture and the photographer of the best picture story/portfolio will receive a Golden Eye Award, a cash prize of EUR 1,500 and an invitation to Amsterdam to attend the Awards Ceremony in April 2005 (including one return air fare and hotel accommodation). Winners of second and third prizes and honorable mentions will receive the foundation’s Golden Eye Award and a diploma.
