a kiállítást megnyitja: nagy kristóf, művészettörténész-szociológus

az “országimázs” és a szubjektív tapasztalat közötti feszültség arra ösztökélt, hogy átértelmezzük, amit addig perifériáról és provincializmusról gondoltunk. britannia, amit másfél év alatt megismertünk, nagyon ellentmondásos: változatlanság, szabványozottság, téglafalak, tinianyák, tradíció jött szembe velünk lépten-nyomon, de közben rácsodálkoztunk a progresszióra, a sokszínűségre, a mindennapi kedvességre, és a burjánzó természetre. egy múltból élő ország, letűnt birodalmi ábrándokkal és egyre ellentmondásosabb jelennel – a valóságnak ez a szelete kelet-közép-európában sem ismeretlen. ezt az ellentmondásos “kis” britanniát szeretnénk bemutatni.

when we started living in everyday britain, stereotypes gave their place to real experience, and we started to build our own image of the country. part of this process was the work with photographs: we gathered motifs and interpreted the world around us. everyday britain was unfamiliar but ordinary. tension between the “brand” of the country and our subjective experience made us reinterpret what we thought about periphery and provincialism before. the small details we got to know of great britain are quite contradictory: conformity, uniformity, brick walls, teenage mums, tradition exist next to progress, diversity, kindness, and a thriving nature. a country living on the past, the fantasies of a lost empire, and an increasingly paradoxical present – this version of reality is not unfamiliar for the east-central european eyes.
